You can’t think of everything – but you can try!
We might all remember to bring along the make-up bag and the spare panty hose, but sometimes little emergencies crop up and you could find yourself thinking longingly about your drawers at home where everything you need is at hand.
Rather than stressing out and running around trying to find helpful hotel personnel or a far-sighted bridesmaid, get your own emergency kit together. Here are a few things you might not have thought you would need but which may prove invaluable. Find a small bag or suitcase and ask your mom or sister to be in charge of packing the following for you – just in case:
- Butterflies might result in tummy upsets or headaches. An outdoor wedding could find one of the wedding party with an allergic reaction. Pack a medical kit. A package of antacid tablets, non-drowsy antihistamines and analgesic pills such as aspirin, acetaminophen or ibuprofen take up very little room and may prove a life-saver when someone needs them
- For those little cuts which might bleed (think little people like the flower girl and ring bearer), a couple of band-aid strips are an easy addition to the bag
- Wrong time of the month for someone in the bridal party. It can get forgotten in the excitement so pack a couple of tampons and pads just in case
- You’ll probably find a thousand uses for a package of wet wipes and a small pack of tissues
- It’s the little things that will let you down so throw packets of bobby pins, safety pins, extra earring backs and even sticky tape into the bag
- A sewing kit is always helpful, but don’t forget to add white thread and some the colour of the bridesmaids’ dresses and a small pair of scissors
- Did you know that baby powder can clean up spills on your white dress…damp with a little water and dust with baby powder?
- For the groomsmen in their dark tuxes, bring along a lint remover for last minute brushing off
- You’ll want to smell beautiful so bring some extra deodorant and a little bottle of perfume
- Your nail got spoiled when you were putting on your shoes. For quick touch-ups, a bottle of nail polish remover, a nail file and new polish in the colour you’re wearing should be in the bag
- Don’t forget a toothbrush, toothpaste and a little mouthwash to freshen your breath
- Bring an extra hand towel to protect your dress when applying powder or makeup
- You never know when a small flashlight might prove to be useful
- If the hotel doesn’t provide one, bring your own iron and throw in some iron-on basting tape for emergency rips or hemming. The iron can also be used to freshen up skirts, veils, etc.
- Don’t forget your hairbrush, some clips in case the curls droop and a little hair spray
- Finally, one or two bottles of water will help to keep you hydrated throughout the preparations
